Five for Friday

Friday once again!  Today is an excellent day at school, full of prep time, gym, buddies and art.  I love how relaxing Friday's can be.  Thanks Doodlebugs Teaching for allowing me to share 5 things from my week.

All week long we worked toward the building of our class agreement.  Actually, we've been working on this for two weeks.  I am happy to say we signed it Thursday.  I'm not going to share much more about the process or the final product right now, but look for it in a future blog post.

I like to do self portraits every year three times: the start of year, mid year and end of year.  This year I was looking for something a bit different to do.  I came across this year tutorial for a half self portrait.

This is NOT my idea!  It came from the site Art Projects for Kids.  Go there to see the image larger and learn more.

I thought it was a bit unique, and the kids are enjoying it.  We hope to finish them off today.  I am making them colour boldly with pencil crayons (meaning press hard, and no white spaces).  Probably can't do that too many times this year as the pencil crayons are getting low already!  They are going to look amazing when complete though.

Today is a fire drill.  It is during my prep.  I am a bit nervous for how this will go down.  It's pouring rain too, of course.

On Thursday, we started thinking about what was important for learning for everyone individually.  Students brainstormed things they were good at, things they need help with at school and things they will be working on this year.  Next week, I hope to conference with each of of them to finalize their plans.  This quick survey will be important not only for me, but for any substitute teachers who enter my room as I will be keeping these forms in my TOC binder.  They are also invaluable to the the students themselves as hopefully it's helped them become a bit more reflective and aware of their needs.

We went to see some comedians last night.  The first one was hilarious!  The second one, not so much.  Either way it was a great way to spend the evening.  Everyone needs to laugh once in a while!

Here's to a great weekend!

  1. What a great way to spend the night out! We live no where near a comedy club but a lot of us teachers got together and went to trivia a couple weeks ago. That was great! I hope you survived the fire drill! Our admin would have canceled because of the rain.. I hope yours did too!
